Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions

This free printable worksheet gives 4th and 5th graders the reverse conversion: rewriting mixed numbers as improper fractions. It is the direction students need before multiplying or dividing mixed numbers, where working in improper form is far easier.

How to Solve Fractions - Concepts

Multiply the whole number by the denominator, then add the numerator - that total goes on top of the same denominator. For 2 1/3: 2 x 3 = 6, plus 1 makes 7, so 2 1/3 equals 7/3. The most common slip is forgetting to add the numerator, so always finish with the plus step.
