Comparing Fractions
These free printable comparing fractions worksheets help 3rd through 5th graders decide which of two fractions is greater or smaller - including pairs with unlike denominators, where gut feeling fails and real fraction sense has to take over. Students write the winning fraction as their answer.
How to Solve Fractions - Concepts
Cross-multiply to compare: for 3/5 and 2/3, compute 3 x 3 = 9 and 2 x 5 = 10; since 10 is bigger, 2/3 is the greater fraction. Same denominators? Just compare numerators. Same numerators? The smaller denominator wins, because fewer pieces means bigger pieces.
