Scientific Notation (Convert Both Ways)
These free printable scientific notation worksheets give 8th graders practice converting in both directions — writing standard numbers in scientific notation and expanding scientific notation back into standard form.
How to Solve Pre-Algebra
To write a number in scientific notation, move the decimal point until exactly one nonzero digit is in front of it, and count the places moved — that count is the exponent on 10 (3,400 becomes 3.4 x 10^3). To convert back, move the decimal point right by the exponent, filling empty places with zeros. The first factor must always be at least 1 and less than 10.
