Adding and Subtracting Negative Integers
Geared towards 6th and 7th graders, the Adding & Subtracting Negative Integers exercise challenges students to switch between integer operation rules rapidly.
How to Solve Integers (Negatives)
If it's an addition problem, remember that different signs subtract, and same signs add. If it's a subtraction problem, immediately rewrite it as 'Adding the Opposite' (Keep-Change-Change). For example, -5 - (-3) becomes -5 + 3. Then solve it using your addition rules.
