How to Solve Integers (Negatives)
Pay close attention to whether the negative sign is inside or outside the parentheses. (-3)^2 means (-3) x (-3) = 9 (the base is -3, and two negatives multiply to a positive). But -3^2 means -(3 x 3) = -9 (only 3 is squared, then negated). Even exponents on negative bases give positive results; odd exponents give negative results.
