Mix every table together and test true fluency: 20 random multiplication facts between 1 and 12 against a 60-second clock. Mixed practice is the honest test — anyone can recite one table in order, but real fluency means answering 7 × 8 cold, right after 3 × 4.

This is the drill to use once individual tables feel solid. If certain facts keep missing, drop back to that table's dedicated practice page (every table from 2 to 12 has one), then return to the mix.

Tips That Make It Stick

  • Order the learning, mix the testing. Learn tables in a friendly order (2s, 5s, 10s, then 3s, 4s, then the rest) — but always test with all learned tables mixed together.
  • Half the work is free. Because 3 × 8 equals 8 × 3, there are only 78 unique facts from 1 to 12 — not 144. Commutativity is the biggest shortcut in arithmetic.
  • Track the misses. The results screen lists every missed question. The handful of facts that keep appearing there are the only ones that need extra work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What order should times tables be learned in?

A proven order: 2s, 5s, and 10s first (strong patterns), then 3s and 4s, then 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s (using tricks and commutativity), finishing with 11s and 12s. Mix everything once each new table is learned.

How long does it take to master multiplication facts?

With short daily practice — five minutes or one or two 60-second rounds — most students reach solid fluency in a few months. Consistency matters far more than session length.

What grade should know all multiplication facts?

Most curricula, including Common Core, expect fluent recall of products of two one-digit numbers by the end of 3rd grade, extending through 12 × 12 in 4th grade.
