Read the sign first
Most mistakes on a mixed sheet aren't math mistakes. The student adds when the sign says subtract, usually right after a run of addition problems. Have them trace or circle each sign before answering, at least on the first page.
This sheet is also a good place to connect the two operations. If 17 − 7 = 10, then 10 + 7 = 17. Students who see that link can check any subtraction problem with addition they already know.

Why mix addition and subtraction on one sheet?
Real problems don't tell you which operation to use. Mixing them makes students read each sign, and it shows whether they understand both operations or have just been repeating one.
Can a subtraction answer be zero?
Yes. 6 − 6 = 0 is on this sheet. Taking away everything leaves nothing, and it's worth saying out loud the first time a student sees it.
