Introduction to Division with Remainders

This free printable worksheet is designed for 4th graders meeting remainders for the first time. Every problem has a leftover amount, so students learn to expect and write the R notation before tackling the long division algorithm.

How to Solve Division

Find how many whole times the divisor fits into the dividend, then write what is left over as the remainder. For 47 divided by 6: six fits 7 times (42), and 47 - 42 leaves 5, so the answer is 7 R 5. The remainder must always be smaller than the divisor.
