Comparison Word Problems
These free printable comparison word problem worksheets help 2nd through 4th graders reason about how many more, how many fewer, and times as many — the comparison situations students find trickiest, because nothing is actually added or taken away in the story.
How to Solve Word Problems
Picture the two amounts side by side, like two bars. To find how many more or how many fewer, subtract the smaller amount from the larger one. For times as many, multiply. Careful: the word more does not always mean add — let the story decide the operation.
