Printable Dividing by 2 Flash Cards
Dividing by 2 is halving — the first division idea children meet, and one they already half-know from sharing: 14 ÷ 2 asks what half of 14 is. These fold-over flashcards cover every dividing-by-2 fact from 2 ÷ 2 up to 24 ÷ 2.
How to Use These Flash Cards
Say each card as a sharing story at first — 16 cookies split between 2 people — then as the bare fact. When a card stalls, flip the question into multiplication: 16 ÷ 2 asks 2 × what makes 16. Running this deck right after the 2 times table deck makes the fact-family link obvious.
How to Cut and Fold
- Print the PDF single-sided on plain paper or light cardstock.
- Cut along the solid lines to separate the cards.
- Fold each card along the dashed center line so the answer sits behind the question, and turn the card over like a page to check.
- Optional: a dab of glue inside the fold makes a sturdy double-thick card.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is dividing by 2 related to halving?
They are the same thing: 18 ÷ 2 asks for half of 18. Children who can halve even numbers already know every fact in this deck — the flashcards just attach the division symbol to knowledge they have.
Why do all these dividends end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8?
Only even numbers divide by 2 with no remainder, and even numbers are exactly the ones ending in those digits. An odd number on a dividing-by-2 card would leave a remainder of 1.
What grade learns division facts?
Division facts are usually introduced in 3rd grade, right after the matching multiplication facts, and expected to be fluent by the end of 4th grade.
